Concept

A minimal wireframe globe, drawn as a mesh of latitude and longitude lines and tilted 23.4° like the Earth’s axis, spins inside a fire made entirely of emoji: sparks ✨, flames 🔥 and 💥 at the hottest points, every glyph turned to follow the flow of the fire. Rockets 🚀 and dynamite 🧨 lie on the surface of the globe like stickers, turn with it, disappear on the far side and pop in and out with the bass. Fire drips off the bottom of the globe like candle wax.

The piece is a music visualizer for Oxxxymiron’s “Mir Gorit” (“The World Is Burning”, 2024), a 30-second excerpt (1:33–2:03). The music drives the motion directly: the spin speed and the dripping follow the smoothed loudness of the track, so louder passages turn the globe faster and make it drip more.

How it’s made

Network / TouchDesigner

A fire simulation in GLSL, drawn as a grid of emoji, around a wireframe globe in TouchDesigner.

  1. Fire simulation. A feedback loop in GLSL: every frame the heat field is advected upward and cooled by noise. Heat is injected by two sources, a ring around the globe and a band along the bottom of the frame.
  2. Emoji rendering. The fire field is sampled on a grid and each cell draws a glyph from an emoji atlas: ✨ for sparks, 🔥 for flames, 💥 at the hottest points. Each glyph is rotated along the local flow direction, so the fire reads as moving, not as a static pattern.
  3. Globe. A lat/long wireframe mesh tilted 23.4°. Its spin speed follows the smoothed loudness of the track.
  4. Stickers. 🚀 and 🧨 are placed in the tangent plane of the sphere, rotate with it and hide when they reach the far side. They pop in and out with the bass.
  5. Dripping. Fire runs off the bottom of the globe like candle wax; how much it drips follows the loudness.
  6. Output. Vertical 9:16 for Reels, encoded with FFmpeg; on this site it plays as a silent 720×1280 loop.
